CORNELL CLOSES A CAREER FAIR, CAVING INTO PROTESTERS

In case you missed it, last week about one hundred Pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel protesters from the Coalition for Mutual Liberation (CML) disrupted a career fair at Cornell that included recruiters from several defence contractors, as well as other firms in other lines of business, such as Corning.

The protesters clearly violated Cornell’s policies.  Joel Malina, VP for University Relations, claims they will be punished. We’ll see about that.

The larger issue is how on earth does Cornell’s administration believe it is acceptable to cave into a small group of childish protesters by shutting down a career fair? Cornell handed these children a great victory in their quest to disrupt the lives of fellow students. In doing so, Cornell denied the far larger contingent of hard-working students the chance to explore job opportunities with firms who travelled to Cornell specifically to meet Cornell students. How many other recruiters will now avoid Cornell, for fear of becoming entangled in squabbles with silly campus activists?

President Kotlikoff owes all students, tuition-paying parents, and alumni an explanation and apology. Cornell’s reputation is sinking under his watch.
